Performed by one of three, or a combination of methods:
Method 1: Mechanical surface cleaning
This is performed with Sanding Pads, Abrasive Sponges or Stainless-Steel Wool (Grit will match end use application which can range from Industrial Service to Fine Food Grade Quality). This is used on small areas or surfaces that require more detailed attention. Thereafter, once this process is complete and exposed to ambient air, the Chromium Oxide layer will re-deposit itself on the Stainless-Steel surface and be Passivated.
Method 2: Abrasive Blasting
This is performed in our Giant, Full Recovery, Blast Room. For this process we use Pure Silica Glass Bead in a fully enclosed environment that is Government, Environment and Safety approved. Once complete, the Stainless-Steel surface once again re-passivates itself.
Method 3: Pickling Acid Bath
Under very demanding circumstances, we immerse components in an Acid Bath. This removes a very thin layer from the Stainless-Steel surface and immediately re-deposits the Chromium Oxide Layer (Passivation) on all surfaces. The Acid Bath is particularly suitable for Small Components and Piping Internals (Loose or Spooled piping systems).
